About the Team
Welcome to the “Sharks”,
the Travis Country Swim Team (TCST) in Austin, Texas. We are glad
to have you as part of the team this summer and look forward to a
fun-filled, competitive season.
The Travis Country Sharks swim team is a summer
recreation program open to children from ages 5 to 18 (as of May 1)
who reside in the Travis Country neighborhood in Austin, TX. The
team belongs to the Capital City Summer League, which hosts a
championship meet held at the University of Texas Swimming Center
each June. The Travis Country Sharks were the 2008 Season Capital
City League Champions and came in second in 2009.
Our coaching staff is led by Head Coach Paul Cumings, now
on his ninth season with the Sharks. Under his watch, the team has
grown from about 150 swimmers to more than 300.
Travis Country Sharks, a non profit club, is run by its
elected Board of Directors, which meets each month. Please feel
free to contact any coach or board member. You can email them
directly through the website if you click on the Coaches link
above.
Team Goal
The goal of the swim team is to offer all eligible youth
in Travis Country the opportunity to improve swimming skills and
overall fitness in a fun-filled yet competitive summer swim league
in the comfort, beauty and convenience of our own
neighborhood. The Sharks’ long tradition in Travis
Country--more than 30 years--has enhanced community spirit as we
work alongside our fellow neighbors and friends encouraging good
sportsmanship in our children and those in neighboring
communities.
Membership/Eligibility
Membership is
open to all Travis Country residents aged 5-18 on May 1 of the swim
year who register within the designated period. The team conducts a
proficiency test for new swimmers at the beginning of the season to
ensure safety--new swimmers must be able to make it a length of the
pool using any stroke without assistance.
